The SAFe® Advanced Scrum Master (SASM) certification expands on the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) by incorporating Agile principles at scale. SASM focuses on leading Agile teams within the context of a SAFe framework, emphasizing advanced facilitation, coaching, and servant leadership skills to navigate complex organizational challenges. 

CSM Certification primarily concentrates on the fundamentals of the Scrum framework and team-level Agile practices. While both certifications cover Agile methodologies, SASM extends to managing Agile practices across larger enterprises, while CSM concentrates on the basics of Scrum at the team level.

SAFe 6.0 Advanced Scrum Master Certification is valid for one year from the date of Certification. To maintain the Certification, holders must renew it annually. To renew this Certification, you need to pay $295 per year.

The retake policy for the SASM Certification exam allows you to retake the exam if you do not pass on your first attempt. The policy details are:

  • You are allowed to retake the exam right after your first attempt. 
  • First retake can be after 10 days of the first attempt and each subsequent retake or attempt you can take after 30 days. 
  • Every retake costs $50.

  • Earn 10 PDUs related to SAFe or Agile topics.
  • Pay the renewal fee
  • Renewal can be done through the Scaled Agile Community platform before the Certification expires.

SAFe Advanced Scrum Master Certification renewal cost is $295.
